Retirement Day 19: I slept till 9:30. I had to frog two whole rounds of crochet on the blanket I am working on because I forgot to turn my work. I changed the bedding. My house is clean. I picked a tomato. My mom made me dinner. #retirement #crochet

Y’all, I am super proud of my tomatoes. I’ve never grown tomatoes this prolific. They’re determinate tomatoes, so they’ll all ripen about the same time and I have picked the first one. There are eight plants. All of the photos are of different clusters, no repeats. #gardening (1/4)

I’m bought the last six pack at Canadian Tire today. The plum jam in the strawberry jars was amusing.
Retirement Day 17: It rained. I made jam from the first ever harvest of my plum tree. The grocery store was out of chicken so I couldn’t prepare for my kayak trip. I failed to do laundry. There’s always tomorrow. #retirement #winning
The discovery islands are good too. Had a huge male orca surface 20 ft in front of my kayak. Very humbling to look up at that giant dorsal fin from my little boat.
The most orcas I’ve ever seen in my life was in the waters around Alert Bay.
I feel like an update every half hour of the standings might add the drama you seek? Or not? I think it will either be a total runaway for totem poles or a squeaker for the flag. Doesn’t matter. Orca ultimately wins. I’m dying on that hill.
The whole season made me weep. The wedding episode was just outstanding.

My kitty does this. She crawls under the covers and curls up in my belly. In the middle of the night she rolls and stretches her whole body along my side while she purrs. The best.

Isla Mujeres is still pretty touristy. What about Holbox? I only go to Coz for boat diving, and the sargasm has been awful for years so I don’t bother with the beaches.
We don’t live in huts and gather berries to survive up here! Toronto is great, I was born there, but probably a pretty similar experience to any other mid sized city. I even have running water!
I have insight to several, but mostly through my lens. If I were to plan any of these, I’d skip Venice in favour of Cinque Terra and Amalfi, forget Cancun and PV and see Huatulco, Cozumel only if you dive, and if choosing, Big Island, Hawaii. It’s a great list! I’m heading to Indonesia.
Also, you forgot Canada. Specifically Vancouver Island, Newfoundland, the Rockies. C’mon man. 🤪

Thank you. It will be three years in January. He got the best care and heroic measures even though he was terminal. And I didn’t have to go bankrupt to pay for his care.
There are plenty of Ospreys where I live. In nesting season they fly at the treetops and break off the branches of dead trees mid-flight for nesting material. It’s amazing to watch. Same technique as fishing- feet first and hit hard.

I’ve been thinking about this and asked my brother to help me (these are big tents) and he was like, yeah, I get it. It’s been a couple of weeks but he showed up unannounced tonight to help fold my tents. He told me he is also particular about this stuff. I feel seen. (2/2)
My somewhat obsessive side has been validated by my brother today. A while back I had to fold up all my tents with someone who has a whole other (valid) idea about how it’s done. I didn’t want to get weird about it so I went along with their tolerance level for my level of particularity. (1/2)

I guess it depends on your circumstances. My husband had several CT scans, MRIs and other medical necessities within hours. He had fucking brain surgery within two days of discovery of a brain tumour. If you need it, you get it. But yes, wait times can be frustrating. It’s not perfect.
I certainly will, and will see my fucking doctor whenever I want. 🤣

Well, I’m in Canada and retiring at 55, so there’s that. We all have different circumstances. And I live in BC, which generally means bring cash! You’re wise to question simplistic assessments like that.
But that is just income tax. Consumption and other taxes like property and municipal taxes are on top of that.
Yeah, it’s not 50%. Average tax rates for Canadians are 17-26% depending on where you live in the country.
I’d recommend Big Island, Hawaii but if you’re avoiding the US like I am, then that’s a no. A quick trip to Mexico is a good relax. I loved Huatulco. You can resort or not and it’s a little less busy than other areas. I hear Ecuador can be super amazing.
How much time do you get? Do you prefer short or longer trips?

Absolutely! Working up a solo trip to Bali, Lombok and Komodo - a little beach, a little diving, a lot of self discovery.

I mean, yeah, it looks nice, but I don’t like to have lights on for no reason.
I only use the light when cooking. I may turn it on for ambient light when guests are over. All of my lights are on dimmer, so I don’t feel the need to light the stove.
Will confirm when I officially retire in two weeks.
