The problem with every retro TV channel is that all they do is license a handful of shows and run them in blocks, on repeat sometimes for years. I'm offering a more curated channel. TV movies. One-season wonders. Whole nights dedicated to the TV work of movie directors like Altman, Spielberg, etc.

16. Mrs. White - Clue. I love all of Madeline Kahn's characters, but the "flames!" bit in Clue puts Mrs. White over the top. Honestly, it's a pity it's only viewable in one of the endings, and not in the meat of the film.
15. Vienna - Johnny Guitar. Joan Crawford plays a woman unapologetic about her unsavory past taking on a lynch mob. Some amazing gender role reversal in this Western, a genre not known for such things.

14. Lady Lou - She Done Him Wrong. I'm endlessly awaiting the day that Gen Z discovers Mae West. I think they'd be blown away.
13. Nyssa - Doctor Who. My vote for most underrated Doctor Who companion. I don't think she ever got her due. I mean, she could pilot the tardis for cripes sake.
12. American Maid - The Tick animated series. As almost the only competent person in the whole universe, she had to pull a lot of straight character weight. And she does. And kicks ass while doing it.
11. K'Ehleyr - Star Trek: TNG. Worf's one-time fling. One of the best guest characters in all of Star Trek. Man, it pissed me off that she only got two episodes before getting offed. Suzie Plakson should be so much better known.
10. Furiosa - Mad Max universe. Almost certainly a very common choice for this topic, but there are reasons for that.
9. Lucille Bluth - Arrested Development. One of the funniest clueless rich people ever. "How much does a banana cost, ten dollars?!" is a line I quote often.
8. Coffy. Still my go to example for a woman who is absolutely done with your shit.
7. Miss Thief Catcher - The Heroic Trio. Mercenary motorcycle ninja turns hero. I hope I don't get sent to horny jail for this, but I don't understand how anyone of any gender expression or orientation would not be fascinated by Maggie Cheung's portrayal here.
6. Jennifer Marlowe - WKRP In Cincinnati. Making the blond bombshell character the smartest person in the ensemble is some serious subversion.
5. Adèle Blanc-Sec. Edwardian-era girl reporter who runs into mummies and rides a pterosaur. I mean c'mon.
4. Piper - Fallout 4. My favorite of the companions. A great rogue, utterly contemptuous of authority, but with a genuine desire to help people.
3. Storm - X-Men. Probably my favorite female superhero. Such a distinct personality.
2. Madame Souza - The Triplets of Belleville. Willing to do anything, ANYTHING, for her grandson. Including crossing the Atlantic on a pedal boat.
1. Samara - Mass Effect 2 and 3. Alien mom transformed by tragedy into a cool seeker of justice with a crazy strict code. Maybe my favorite character in the games.

Hilarious. The soldiers can't be bothered to wear dress uniforms, march in step, or even look proud. And a classic "did they even listen to the lyrics" music choice. They hate every minute of this.

I was briefly in an improv group with Maria Bamford.
It was basically Dragnet, only it was Air Force officers investigating UFO sightings. Usually two cases per episode, one debunked, one yeah maybe who knows? Probably dates like hell, but I was so into this show as a kid.
I always think of this passage when comparing the danger of the countryside to the city.
There was also an aimless bildungsroman about a boy in a post nuclear apocalypse world I wanted to call The Ruins of 1990. Not remotely Mad Max. Little action and no gangs, just sort of melancholic wandering. Haven't thought about this in decades. I only got a few pages into it.
Not a novel per se, but a rather elaborate superhero universe that was sort of cherry picked and mutated from parts of DC and Marvel. Included retcons of silver age goofiness. I was going to use it as a basis for an RPG, but then I realized people don't play RPGs to experience a story.
I cracked a rib once, and then caught some awful cough right afterwards. It sucked. My sympathies.
