This is why, when pointing out Republican hypocrisy, we have to take it a step further. Way too many people just want to sneer at how stupid they are, without pointing out that their stupidity is intentionally weaponized against you.
I've got an impressive record going boycotting Chick-fil-A, but I also almost never eat fast food, so it's not clear they know about my principled stand.

What issues do they think Dems voters are voting for? They correctly identify that voter enthusiasm is an issue, but their solution is to gut any position that people might be enthusiastic about.
It's surreal to see the big names post on Bluesky whatever Trump's latest atrocity is, and their comment is like "That's not what a good leader does!"
We do the same thing in America--it's called the news. BOOM
We'll see. If this case doesn't get the "right" verdict it will get appealed to the Supreme Court, which exists to do what Trump wants.

If nothing else, the last couple weeks have made being a journalist seem like an incredibly easy, if unrewarding, job.
Assuming that you mean that their job is to crush the "left," then yes.
That is correct. My point is that anyone can be designated a "trans advocate" with no evidence. This is a cynical ploy to divert blame from white Christian men, who commit the vast number of shootings, to trans people, the current group the right most wants to exterminate.
Hence the "trans advocates" distinction.

Agreed. It's fine to not be familiar with Kirk, and it's fine to take a pragmatic stance against murder, but if everyone is saying this guy is a bigot then she shouldn't defend him without basic due diligence.
I had a coworker like this--completely apolitical. January 7th, 2021, I came into work and mentioned the insurrection. She thought I was making it up. Not that I was exaggerating; that I had fabricated it entirely. Her argument was "That doesn't sound right." I don't think she ever looked it up.
The Peacemaker show actually did a pretty good job with this, although I guess the clan-allegory villain wasn't the main bad guy. My memory is hazy.
I'd love a villain who's in charge of the Klan and everyone's like "What's his secret goal? What's he plotting?" and then at then end they're like "Oh...he's just a bigot." That seems much truer to real life to me.
I guess it would be boring or predictable to have the antagonist never reveal a true motive. But maybe writers could learn from Glass Onion, which kind of does this in reverse: the villain SEEMS like a canny mastermind, but actually he's just an idiot who got lucky.
Captain America 1 had this. Also the HBO Watchmen show--that was especially disappointing. Now that I think about it, though, it even goes back to Raiders of the Lost Arc, where Belloc is merely using the Nazis to his own ends.
I feel like a lot of media has "right-wing" antagonists who are later revealed to be cynical masterminds who only used the bigoted organization for their own goals, but don't actually share their bigoted views. I'm ready for villains who pretend to be bigots because they really are one.
Journalists are discovering that learning what Kirk actually said makes it a lot harder to defend him, so I doubt they'd take you up on that offer.

I fucking hate using the term "elites." I think it makes you sound like a Q-anon psycho. So I'm furious that there isn't really another way to explain what's happened in the past two weeks re: the Kirk shooting and Trump's birthday card for Epstein.

At a certain point, civility becomes code for "know your place." It's apparent it's acceptable to advocate for genocide or the repression of others if you wear a suit and are the "right" kind of person in their eyes. But anyone else? Calls for peace and demonstrations are somehow disavowed. (1/3)

There are other jobs. Ones that don't demand you defend white supremacy in public because you're too overburdened to do otherwise. Working in retail, I don't care, but keep your soul.

Nah. Standing up for white supremacist = white supremacist. This person is a journalist, if they want to find out what Kirk's views were they could...look them up? But they choose not to, and instead defend a white supremacist in "ignorance." I don't care why--that means they agree with him.
Generals are only responsible for the people they kill by hand. If their armies decide to kill people after the generals told them to, that's on the individual soldiers.
Remember last week, when all we wanted to talk about was how some guy poked the hornets nest by saying lit fic was for old, boring sex pests and masochistic posers?
As opposed to last week, when they were committed to living in peaceful, civil disagreement with the left.

The subtext to every one of these weepy obituaries: the specifics of Charlie Kirk's life are unimportant because people in the media are better than you, so don't start getting ideas otherwise.
