I had a coworker like this--completely apolitical. January 7th, 2021, I came into work and mentioned the insurrection. She thought I was making it up. Not that I was exaggerating; that I had fabricated it entirely. Her argument was "That doesn't sound right." I don't think she ever looked it up.

In 2001, one of my mom’s coworkers earnestly asked at a staff meeting “Why did we send troops to Afghanistan?” I think she did know 9/11 happened, but had not understood it in any kind of context or relationship with anything else.

It was in the east coast afternoon IIRC? I don't see anything wrong with listening to music coming home from your job, watching a movie on netflix and then going to bed. And I can see why one would find strange to wake up into a full-fledged banana republic. Surely by the 8th reality would catch up?

I was talking about the county in Texas putting their flood warning system funds into a hole so libs wouldn’t get it and my mother in law just off the cuff goes “that sounds far fetched”, even though I had receipts.

The thing is, she almost certainly knows about it now, and it would be interesting to know what she thinks.
