and uh…i’m not a bash programmer. almost nobody is. i’m better than probably 80% of devs at it but nobody writes commercial software in bash so nobody spends 40 hours a week in it. and it’s a weird archaic syntax with weird kinks that are hard to remember!
even if you could memorize all those things and spit them out perfectly on the first try, you also have to put together an efficient plan to get specifically what you want and how you’re going to use these commands you have perfectly memorized
almost nobody knows how to do all those things off the top of their head. lots of people have done all of those things but can’t rattle of perfect syntax for all of those things on the first try
it knows how gradle.build and pom.xml files are formatted, and it knows how to use regex to parse that formatting correctly on the first try, and it knows how to modify a fond command to find exactly what build files i want to search, and it knows how to format the output
i’m probably not gonna even bother writing that script myself. it would take longer than to just look at all the build files myself and copy/paste the versions i care about into excel or whatever. but if i can have ai generate a script to do that in 10 seconds, that’s fuckin great
i know vibe coding is derogatory. i have random uses for little scripts that are a pain in the ass to write in bash because bash syntax is weird and not something i memorize. if i want to iterate all my services and read either a gradle or maven file to see what version of a library they’re on
