I think this take is just ahistorical and not rooted in the documented record. You can't pin everything on Fox, you have to see how Fox is the manifestation of larger cultural trends. You think ragebait was invented in the 1980s? You missed everything that happened in the 1900-1960.

There are a million ways you can justify changes in setting, fiction is fiction. And given that these fictions were subject to real life sensibilities at the time, it is completely justified for real life concerns around inclusion and representation to be the *exclusive* reason changes are made now.
People puffing out their chests and demanding that there needs to be a good in universe reason for changes to the sacred lore, are ignoring through ignorance or deliberate bad faith, how it was formed in the first place. Often to excuse/obfuscate their own unexamined biases or straight up bigotries.
It's the perfect combination to foster self-reinforcing cycles. Confused and lonely people seek social connection, get fed bullshit by LLMs and propaganda by right-wing grifters, both of which tell them their loneliness is OTHER people's fault, so they don't seek community they seek chatbots.

Any "artist" that is using AI to create their "art" should know that their art sucks and the only way to make art that doesn't suck is by sucking until you get good. You can't do that by using a search engine that steals from better artists.
I kind of wonder what sorts of art they do enjoy. Like do they believe their favorite musical artist knew how to play instruments and sing with "natural talent"? Or their favorite writer never threw away a draft? Or their favorite movie-maker just knew how cameras worked?
