I've probably faced more abuse this week than I have covering any other story. Lots about me being a traitor etc but probably most seriously, threatening messages. You'll get what's coming, we're coming for you etc, from the men "defending women and girls". You have to laugh

The situation gets worse every day. It's also grim seeing some journalists lean into the hatred for clicks, then cowardly putting house bylines on these stories instead of their own. If you know how bad it is, don't write it in the first place. It's not hard.

It can be scary to speak up for refugee rights in this climate. We know the far-right will attack us for this. We even had far-right activists openly calling for our newsroom to be burned down recently. But we HAVE to use our platforms to stand up for vulnerable people

The far-right is emboldened. Too much of the media fan the flames of hatred, rather than reporting responsibly. We all know who benefits from spreading division like this - right-wing politicians and billionaires. The National has no interest in supporting that agenda.
