In response to Brown v Board of Education, the Christian right built their own alternative structures. While this reality is not ideal ... Until we have a plan, we might want to preserve our knowledge by collaborating and setting up our own alt institution with a wide tent that others can join

Indiana University-Bloomington has just cut ~20% of its degrees and programs. At the same time, President Pamela Whitten, whom the faculty and student body VOTED OUT because of her incompetence, has just received 1) a contract extension, 2) raise to 900,000, 3) 200,000 bonus.
My running theory is that the strikes against Iran were timed in order to ramp up the propaganda machine.
Either way they need to be replaced with younger, less corrupt talent.

I just watched TikTok lives of the #LAprotests. The story was the same across each one. The protests were peaceful, and then law enforcement escalated the situation and either provoked a reaction or began arresting people for simply standing around.

Today I'm skimming "Women & Christian Origins", Ed. by Kraemer and D'Angelo (1999). It provides a series of essays which explore the engagement and literature of women, #gender, and #sex in early Christianity (Greece, Rome). The essays discuss canonization, gnosticism (Gospel of Mary), & ~heresy~.
It's been almost a week, and the absence left by Pope Francis is still quite palpable. While I'm not a Catholic, I have always admired his courage and compassion as he stood up to the corruption and evil displayed by world-powers.
The holdings of the Archive of the Inquisition are... A lot. It's a lot. But when my own university sold their own copy of the Index Librorum Prohibitorum in a library sale later... I snatched it.
The history of the Archive of the Inquisition is complex and entangled with the history of the Vatican and #Rome, but it attempts to document incidents of heresy and theological debate, especially from the time of the Spanish Inquisition to the mid-20th c.
When I had the opportunity to visit the #Vatican #Archives last year with the #SangalliInstitute, we visited the Archives of the Inquisition. One of the books they had, obviously, was the Index Librorum Prohibitorum (the list of #bannedbooks).
I filed, got my refund, and then they contacted me to say that they recalculated after the fact. I owed them the same amount again. Ummmmm... #DOGE

Last night, I had a long conversation with my grandmother, who is an ardent T supporter. She has wanted me to find a job close to her and the rest of the family. We miss each other. This is difficult to do in #academia. A government(-funded) position was my best hope. This is a really weird time.
