100%. I get a bit emosh about it too. Most of my friends were a minimum 30 minutes away too, spread all across the city. Very rarely had an impromptu thing, no quick cuppa because you’re passing.

Really enjoyed reading this. It chimed a lot. We just moved house in a mad frenzy and it was really challenging to find a place inside the Paris walls. A big part of me clinging to those walls was that sense of community - the friends who pop the kettle on and give you admin tips. 💙🤍❤️

Orly is much better. Now has metro connection via line 14. CDG relies on awful RER B and some terminal ends are absolutely miles to walk to. Security and passport controls also frequently understaffed and super slow at CDG

Today is the 47th anniversary of this clearly unimprovable photo, from a story so absurd that it shouldn’t be true, but is: the day a team of workers from British Waterways pulled the plug out of the Chesterfield Canal, and all the water emptied out

A man with a spectacular 1970s mullet, wearing big wellies and a v-neck jumper over a T-shirt, looks at camera as he stands on a boat which is itself standing on the muddy bottom of an empty canal. He is holding up an enormous wooden plug on a long chunky chain

It's wild how many people thought it was about the sandwich. Same people "the divorce came out of no where".

r/Marriage u/Newshoesforthewin 9h A sandwich made me realize I want a divorce Vent I was completely exhausted the other day. I've been going through a difficult time with a personal matter, also deep in the throes of perimenopause. I didn't cook dinner so when my husband got home from work he made himself a sandwich. He made one for me too. He made me a sandwich he knows very well I wouldn't eat. The bread was hard and it was dry as fuck. It was in that moment that I saw the big picture. I realized that, should I ever not be able to care for myself, the level of care I would receive from him would be based solely on his willingness or unwillingness to make an effort and not on my actual needs. I asked him, NothingUpstairs4957 8h Same scenario the other day in a healthy relationship Wife comes home completely exhausted Job, her mom is in the hospital and her hormones are out of wack I made a sandwich for her and me She says thank you and ask me if i can get the mayo and mustard out the fridge I oblige and kiss her on the forehead We sit down and eat and finish watching squid games GarbageTimely3826 8h 1,938 Good luck in the rest of your journey It's not about the ability to ask for something. It's not even really about the sandwich. It's about your partner knowing and caring enough about your wants and needs that you don't have to. I know my husband hates condiments. If I always ignored getting his food plain, at some point it becomes malicious. GarbageTimely3826 8h It's not about the sandwich, it's about being seen. StupidFlanders2017 8h 242 165 GarbageTimely3826 8h That's ridiculous. Communication is key. Silently hoping for mayo is not communication. After years together, knowing how your partner likes something shouldn't need to be communicated. If I made a burger for my husband I'd know it needs to be plain or I'd ask hey do you want bacon jam? Because I know him. He doesn't need to communicate those small things anymore. 1 267 69iloveyou 8h Some people don't deserve their husbands and it shows. 114 mani_mani 8h Seems like a lot of people need to read the HuffPost article that gets passed around all the time. It's not that she couldn't ask for mayo or he made her a shitty sandwich one time. It's that the shitty sandwich made her realize that it's a symbol of how he shows up for their relationship. He regularly doesn't give her the same care and attentiveness that she gives him. In return for his knowingly haphazard attempts, he expects praise. Sure my husband has sometimes made dinner a bit on the spicier side knowing that it's a toss up if I could handle the spice. But because he puts care and kindness in all other aspects of our relationship, it's not a big deal for me to fix my portion to an acceptable level of spice. It's not like I'm an after thought, he made a calculation and got it wrong. That's how this would go down differently in a marriage built on mutual kindness and respect. A comment said

To repeat: the Trump administration peace deal was always a deal for peace between Russia and the US, not Russia and Ukraine. In it, it seems, the US gets Ukraine's resources, Russia gets Ukraine's land, and Ukraine gets to say thank you.

I was out of work for a year in my mid-late 30s and burnt through all my savings just keeping a roof over my head. With that, gone was my chance of egg freezing, or the idea that I could support a child on my own if need be. SMP for single parents is wholly insufficient

It’s frankly barbaric how the US approaches maternity leave. Neither baby nor mama is ready for ‘back to work’ after a couple of months. Just inconceivable to Europeans.

Incredibly dishonest polling and reporting, implying that most people in France are against abortion. In fact well over 80% *support* the right to abortion. Pollsters asked things like - is it better to avoid abortion if possible? Abortion is no-one's Plan A, but having it as a Plan B is vital

There it is: Trump announces the US will not be enforcing its new shell company registry, which is the single-best tool to counter kleptocracy.

Following the spat between Pres Trump, VP Vance & Pres Zelenskiy, Pres Putin’s spokesman and adviser Dmitri Peskov says: ‘The collective West has partially ceased to be collective, and the fragmentation of the collective West has begun.’ The Kremlin’s delight is palpable.

🇪🇺🇬🇧 Through my first set of meetings in Brussels. The praise for Starmer is overwhelming: “What he has managed to do is not just good for him. It's good for all of us. Absolutely top notch. This is the UK at its best. The UK we have always admired.
