I think any preparation for what will happen next year or in 2028 has to keep in mind that a federal government unshackled from oversight will simply seek the most efficient ways to strangle any opposition. Those ways won’t necessarily be by force.
But one thing about the breakdown of the rule of law is that doing things like closing polling places or roads near polling places under any guise becomes conceivable simply because the rewards for doing so outweigh the risks.
I for one have no illusions that whatever they do will be done competently. However incompetence at large scales can still be very effective.
Tbf it’s not exactly unfathomable that they would literally enlist militias and brownshirts into federal service alongside every government employee qualified to carry a weapon in order to achieve this. They could also do what the NSDAP did, which was simply close polling places for “security.”
Look, they do not have the capacity or competence to do this at the scale they want you to fear they do, and your fear is precisely their greatest force multiplier. Everybody who is cowed into silence by their threats allows them a smaller pool to focus on.
It’s interesting to me that the surface level ideas and sometimes even the institutions of a movement can become a vehicle for something that that movement wouldn’t even recognize as belonging to it. It’s like success breeds not only imitation but cooption.
Absolutely, you’re right. I appreciate the correction. I was honestly thinking more about the meta-movement as a whole rather than the individuals in that movement. You’re right to emphasize that what the TERFs are is what they say they are.
There’s something about every liberation movement that makes it so that once the basic goals of that movement are accomplished (on a surface level) some part of that movement pivots to an orthodoxy that defends that new status quo at the expense of the next liberation movement.
But the second it’s over, like with McCarthy, it will be as if all of this just never happened.

It seems silly to have to say it to people, but expertise is as deep a knowledge of what is false, as of what is true. It’s not a statistical average of everything you’ve been exposed to. It’s exercise over diet in that sense.
As far as I know, and that isn’t very far tbf, an LLM cannot apply an experienced human level of discernment between information that is of low value or veracity, and information that is of high value. It can’t read critically, which is what an expert does by definition.
