I love this so much and I am absolutely tearing up about it. The gentleness and plainness of this, the way he just lets her be her (and she seems so damn lovely, who wouldn’t?), the generosity. It isn’t going to solve the world’s problems, but this kind of humanity is a hell of a start.

Housing first policy in the USA is effective to a degree but ultimately it will fail politically (as we are seeing, I think) because it’s less than a half measure.
Finland does not just “do housing first,” they have committed themselves to a vision of society and a shared understanding of what housing is and what it is for that includes everyone.
Helsinki - owns 60k social housing units, available universally to any resident regardless of income level - owns 70% land w/in city limits - has a zoning monopoly - runs its own construction company - 1 in 7 residents live in city-owned housing

Finally, I will get a little high-minded and say this: friendship is hope in the darkness, and there is so much darkness, but darkness does not overcome the light.
I can’t see any of my friends as much as I’d like, but I can ask any of them at any time to talk or meet up. There’s no such thing as cheating on a friend, and there’s no contract. Friendship is the freest and most essential human relationship you can have.
Your new friends don’t even have to know about each other! I’ve got movie friends, beer friends, Packers football friends, religion friends, pho friends, music friends, dad friends, and online friends. Some of these are really close and others are more like buddies.

This isn’t an introvert/extrovert thing in my estimation. I am an introvert. I’m more introverted now than I was in my 20s. But because I tend toward loneliness and isolation is exactly why I’ve cultivated so many new friendships in the last decade.
Having turned 40, the most important thing you can do through your 30s—especially as a man—is cultivate friendships. You must start setting yourself up to have a vibrant social network into your 50s and 60s. Loneliness in your 30s is one thing. Loneliness in your later decades seems much worse.

It spat out a serviceable 500 word post, took a couple of liberties w/ what I wrote, made a couple of connections obviously plagiarized from a million other blogs. The only part that took "skill" was writing up my notes and countless other writers figuring out lowest common denominator blog posts.
This morning I was thinking about how to keep the blog on the church website updated with weekly posts. If I had a full sermon written out I could post something from that but I preach from notes. I dropped in my notes into chaptgpt and said, "write a 500 word blog post from this"
Seven of Nine was a great character because they added someone who is genuinely and for principled reasons sympathetic to a culture that seems horrifying to the audience, and have her hold her ground to defend it against the Federation pilled main characters.
