“The president—who has been found liable for lying on loan paperwork—is the one to make monetary policy decisions, not the person who merely has been accused of lying on loan paperwork.”

Seems like we agree on a lot, including the belief that policy choices must not ignore the government’s role in protecting its citizens. I am unconvinced that “federalization” is the solution. There’s a lot of good data that says localizing, not centralizing, the policing function is the better way.
lule-of-raw.bsky.social (@lule-of-raw.bsky.social) reply parent
But since you asked, Baltimore is a regionally adjacent city with historically high crime that has made amazing progress in this regard. I think it could be a model for DC (and I think two cities’ approaches already have similarities).
lule-of-raw.bsky.social (@lule-of-raw.bsky.social) reply parent
I started it to push back on the Vice President’s claim that disliking POTUS’s plan to “federalize” DC policing equated to “liking” a high crime rate (and his use of old data and irrelevant comparisons in the process)…
lule-of-raw.bsky.social (@lule-of-raw.bsky.social) reply parent
You seem to only argue by categorical statements. Plenty about DC is great—like the precipitous drop in crime—and I’ve said nothing that contradicts that. I did not start this thread to argue about how DC can reduce crime…
lule-of-raw.bsky.social (@lule-of-raw.bsky.social) reply parent
Your approach here is strange for someone who does not enjoy debates that break down into petty insults. I’m not saying everything in DC is great. I’m suggesting that current efforts are making marked improvements and arguing that shifting to a mass policing strategy may not be the best approach.
lule-of-raw.bsky.social (@lule-of-raw.bsky.social) reply parent
And like your other claims, your accusation that I know nothing of DC is similarly baseless. You seem to have a strange view of the city as having “two areas.” Logan Circle, H Street, Petworth, Shaw, Navy Yard are different “areas” that have seen massive transformation in the last 10-20 years.
lule-of-raw.bsky.social (@lule-of-raw.bsky.social) reply parent
Umm… your WTOP article explains that 33% of its 123,000 number are rental units merely between tenants. Your “evidence” just doesn’t hold up. Sorry. At best, you are arguing from anecdotes while choosing to ignore that the trend line is moving in the right direction in DC right now.

Your argument is floundering. You said funding was the problem. The provided stats excluded federal police forces you referenced (Secret Service, FPS, Capitol Police, SCUSPD, & National Park Police). So back to my original question: should we just do more of what’s working, or something different?

This is a valid point. The question is: do we continue the policies responsible for the 32% drop or do something entirely different?
