To be more positive about it I am incredibly glad that the series finally managed to win me back. I was so completely done with the series this time ten years ago that I honestly didn’t think there was anything whatsoever that they could do to make me genuinely care about the series again.
It’s somewhat petty of me but hearing that the Sonic series was struggling to survive a decade ago and seeing the recent increase in people saying ‘wow yeah those years were actually really shit’ feels so incredibly validating Like thank fuck, it wasn’t just me then
Basically being a trainwreck worse than the mid-2000s was. Honestly I’d say it lasted longer than just until 2017. From my experience most fans still stuck with the series through 06 whereas much of the 2010s was bad enough that it actually drove off people who had been fans for *decades*
Also I don’t know if it’ll help for you but nowadays for racing games I basically always swap A and Y on Switch to use Y as accelerate because holding A for any real length of time does a number on my wrists and I have no idea why anyone would make that as a control scheme
I honestly don’t get what part of ‘Act like the button is being held down all the time’ they struggled with. It feels like they’ve just overcomplicated it by trying to make it smarter than it needs to be.
So it seems the options are to either forego the starting boost, or get it and then deliberately let go/ slow down drastically until it kicks in again. Neither are ideal.
Normally this wouldn’t be a problem but the fact you still have to press the accelerator to get the starting boost complicates it a lot.
The problem being you basically have to slow to a crawl before the game decides ‘Oh actually maybe they do want it after all’ and have it kick back in
From what I can tell it seems to be oddly and nonsensically dynamic. Like, it’ll take any press of the accelerator as an assumption that you *don’t* want the auto-acceleration any more and will disable it Then the only way to get it to come back on it to let go again
It’s honestly just so baffling that this show exists. It frankly would have been more understandable had it been a few years earlier. But at a time where they were actually trying to unify the Japanese and American continuities they put out something that basically resembled neither

I can’t think of any way out of this situation and I don’t know what to do.
I just want to be able to live my life without having to keep dragging myself back to my parents every single week. It’s expensive and tiring and I hate that we’ve had our house for five years and I’m still only there for 4-5 days a week.
In 2022 I managed to come out to my mum and brother and tell them everything, but in truth they have no control over the situation. It made no difference. If anything it made the situation even messier.
Tomorrow is five years since we moved into our house. My family situation with my parents is still at an absolute stalemate and I’m still going back and forth between our place and my parents in something of a double life. I can’t see any solution to this situation. I hate this.
