yeah despite being an early wow enthusiast, it really felt like the deathknell in the (at the time) design philosophy of mmo. a world to explore was traded in for clear concise instructions from point A to B, people use "theme park mmo" to talk about this imo i see it more like a snaking corridor

i didn't care much about the series itself but the gquuuuuux and the red gundam model kits are both that i was pretty adamant about having. something about their khara-ness really hits for me even though i'm not huge on the rebuild designs
anyways today xan virtually strong-armed me to get her the red gundam (i wanted one too). she saw my local gamestop had them in stock but when i got there they were hidden buried deep under other boxes lmao

but yeah, don't get me wrong, the blu-ray version is more than good but some of the effects are missing and some of the colour changes really made the anime feel a lot more white compared to its original washed out look
btw if you're wanting to watch lain, i recommend the dvd version over the blu-ray release. the bd is very nice by itself but something about the dvd colours just hits the right spot imo (left is dvd, right is bd)

don't worry, 99% of the time it's pretty obvious when someone is trying to get something out of you versus when they're genuine
