It's hidden in the settings but what justifies the longer length! You can also go in and manually turn the auto-aim assist ubiquitous to games with modern shooter controls down or even all the way off to recapture the feeling of James' ineptitude.
In Silent Hill 2, you can turn the entire HUD completely off. No health bar, no screen effect for low health, no ammo counter, no button prompts for interactibles. This makes it to where you have to pay close attention to the world and use all your senses to survive.
I will say for Silent Hill 2 at least you can put the edges right back on. Only way to play the game imo

Yeah, Carter's work, not just The X-Files but Millennium as well, is highly personal, thoughtful, and even radical in his willingness to tear down his own foundations. You don't hear much about this anymore, just attacks on his character because he refused to reduce his work as X-Files shippers did.
