That's actually hilarious to know! But ... come to think of it, maybe leaving in one shot of a wagging tail might have given a bit more sense of the ominous ... as though the dog was taking some sort of sick pleasure in his murderous rage!
One of the issues the film makers had during the shooting of Cujo was that the dogs were all friendly and editing out the wagging tails was a challenge. In an early scene when Gary is being attacked by Cujo, the scene ends with a very chipper wagging tail just before the scene cuts. 😂
