I saw this as a kid and it blew my mind --it's postmodern, metatextual. There used to be stuff like this on network TV. People complained about the lowest common denominator aspect of the business, and they were right to, but the format also regularly allowed stuff like this, which is brilliant.

I interviewed him for the Vulture TV podcast years ago and he said that stuff about the scene in Fargo. I don't remember if I actually took issue with him during the interview, because it was pretty stunning to hear from the showrunner of freaking Fargo, but I've been thinking about it ever since.
