What is "bacon to use up"? Isn't that just "bacon"?
mbaumser.bsky.social (@mbaumser.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure. But I think the original post is reflecting that it took years to get that far while the outrage over Kimmel was immediate.
mbaumser.bsky.social (@mbaumser.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd love to believe this but without a link to a news outlet, it's just an internet meme.

I think the answer is in your post: "10 years after" And that's just the funding, not the completed fix. So it will be years more.

You make zero sense. Kimmel is free to walk away from ABC/Disney. He can terminate his contract. He just won't get paid the balance of the contract. So there is nothing for him to sue for. The contract doesn't guarantee him a show or a time slot, just money for a period of time.

mbaumser.bsky.social (@mbaumser.bsky.social) reply parent
He can walk, but then he stops getting paid. And if he goes on another network without permission, they can fire him for cause...and then he stops getting paid. As of now, his show is suspended. He hasn't been fired and (wait for it...) he's still getting paid.

mbaumser.bsky.social (@mbaumser.bsky.social) reply parent
Is the 5 year (down from $200) a reflection of conservatives reaction to Disney or liberals reaction to the former head of Disney not fighting back against DeSantis?? Or just a reaction to a series of big budget flops (Snow White, Captain America:Brave New World, Buzz Lightyear, etc)

The people rejoicing that Disney went down a few points this week never seem to acknowledge (or understand) that Disney was at $80 in March of this year. This is all Market Value loss, not real money. Disney hasn't lost a dime. If your 401K has mutual funds or ETFs, you probably lost!!

I'm not saying that changes are not needed. I'm just saying that no set of rules can be formulated that can't be defeated or ignored if those in power are dead set on ignoring them. For example, putting the Marshals under the judiciary is great, unless the judiciary is in league with the executive
mbaumser.bsky.social (@mbaumser.bsky.social) reply parent
The 14th and 25th were added well after the founders were long dead. But the founders did include a mechanism to add the 14th and 25th anticipating the need for change. They didn't anticipate fealty to one man over country. A handful of senators or reps could switch parties and end this tomorrow.
mbaumser.bsky.social (@mbaumser.bsky.social) reply parent
The founders 100% anticipated evil people coming to power. It's why the system has redundant checks and balances. What they didn't anticipate was a political party completely becoming subservient to the evil people.

Let me see if I got this right. You're saying assassinating a gun rights advocate who argued that loss of life was a necessary part of a free (re 2nd amendment) society is worse than the murder of school children. Because assassination is targeted terrorism and regular mass murder is random.
