you forgot the bunnygirl episode, and there's the obvious latex bodysuit (despite the somewhat questionable shoulderpads!) And her Black Knight minidress and visor uniform is *very* mechsploitation - it's not really "drone", but is somewhat adjacent

it seems like something that's going to bounce around for a while, until someone suddenly gets a big, fat legal hammer to the face and there's a lot of sudden "oh shit!" changes to make covers more explicitly generic, putting text over faces, more generic outfits etc.

"British-Indian food" has basically developed as an entire distinct branch of cuisine, derived from, but very different to, "Indian food" (which is itself quite a complicated subject with lots of different types!)
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
It's not a mandated subject, it's entirely optional ( assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7c66...) so most places won't even mention it, so not part of the national syllabus. "Indian" I don't think most would consider a "bad" word, just oddly old-fashioned, it seems an odd choice to use

Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
like I say, it's mostly from context. "I got an Indian dreamcatcher to hang up on my wall" would generally pass without comment and be understood as "Native American". It's never, AFAICT, been a part of the history syllabus, always optional - it's mostly British and European history covered there
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
in colloquial use, I think a lot of Brits would use "Indians" without really thinking, because it doesn't come up often and it's contextually obvious if it's "American Indians". It's not a required school subject though, and for a modern video, it's an odd choice to use it as a term

pages 81-84. The game is balanced around multiple (mostly combat-based) encounters per day, typically at least 3 (to allow short-rest classes to do stuff then short rest to regain resources, and long-rest classes to feel strain). 1-encounter days are wonky in a lot of ways, so best avoided
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
5e also has *so many* fights that even a small chance of death rapidly stacks up - when there's multiple notionally dangerous fights every literal day, they kinda need to be biased towards the PCs unless you want lots of dead PCs (which 5e, as a system, doesn't)

that's a LOT more work and not instant though - it's harder to compel, and the replacement still needs to be ratified by both houses (and means there's no VP for tiebreak votes while this is happening!), which takes more time and effort and hassle
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
Can he change his VP? I think it requires the VPs removal by Congress - it's an elected position, not a position directly picked by the President that he can change at will. Even if they hate each other, the Pres can't dump the VP whenever they want

I suspect some is people not adjusting to modern prices - like going "oh, flatscreen TVs, what luxury!" when even a medium-size one costs maybe a few hundred, tops, and it's not that odd to get a hand-me-down cheap or free, so even dirt-poor people will have something that was a luxury 30+ years ago

you get this even *within* a company, where simple things like "who actually looks after this?" or "where is this stored?" is on a list from multiple redundancies ago, that's never been updated, and the actual answers are (if you're lucky) in someone's head, or lost to the ages
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
you can have free/$0 tiers (I've got one) - you can make posts visible to everyone as well. Unless they've removed that, which would be a bit strange, as it's pretty common to have a free preview tier, and then paid ones

on 4) pretty much every historical RPG I've seen has had "uh, yeah, history was often shit, especially for certain groups, so feel free to ignore those bits". Which is nice, but means you're instantly in AU territory, which sort of defeats some of the point of being "historical"!

it also gets worse the more she expands it - like the entire world only has a handful of wizarding schools, and how wizards have creepy AF attitudes towards other people. Going from "whimsical kid's book" to "trying to be serious and realistic" didn't do it any favors!

it just seems a little pointless - like, even for a fan, it's going to be "hey, the movies were neat, now I can watch the first movie stretched into 8 hours" or something, and there's just not that much content to make it really worthwhile, really

yup, the worldbuilding gets *weird* and falls apart under any scrutiny, the bloat is obvious (as is happening with her detective series!) and a lot of the other bits have flopped to various degrees (Fantastic Beasts just kinda withered, for example).

plus a setting that's really easy to insert yourself into, the cast growing up with readers, coming out often enough to get momentum etc. it doesn't seem as super-popular with younger readers who can shotgun it down at once

yup - "what is the point of this?" is a entirely valid question, it's not as though there's vast reams of side-content to explore or core plotlines that were skipped, it's literally "hey, that story you've seen and read? want it again, but spread out more? here you go!"
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent

with the Hugos, it could be anything between "malefic actors cackling in backrooms at their nefarious plans" to "shit, only one person has the password and they're sick/out of contact, when are they back?" or "work's been shit, not had time, I'll do it, uh... soon, honest"!
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
yup - it's gonna be a LOT of footage. And take years to film, so expect some of the cast to literally die of old age, or the awkwardness of puberty for the young ones. Stranger Things has taken 9 years for 4 seasons, if this is similar, we're gonna have 30-year-olds playing teens!
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent

the C-suite tend to have a fairly extensive head-canon of what their workers do, which is often VERY different from what their workers actually do, resulting in a lot of friction when they're sold a tool they think will help the company, that actively hinders work being done!

there's typically various starter sets and boxes that have a complete deck or more at (comparative) discount - still pricey, but in the range where it can be saved up for or a gift (or older sets going at discount)
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
Magic seems pretty deep into that - I know the core gameplay from years ago, but there's been, like... 4(?) sets this year, with all sorts of extra widgets and mechanics added, so just following what's mechanically happening gets increasingly hard!
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
yup - there's some value to them, with better auto-complete, improved typing etc., but there's are marginal increases, not a multi-multi-billion dollar service, bigger than smartphones! Especially as they need super-expensive upgrades to improve, rather than being one-and-done software
Melissa DuVant (@melissaduvant.bsky.social) reply parent
the improvements also seem to be *crazy* expensive - how much has been spent to get models to where they are now, where anything important made, you'll want an expert to check anyway, often for minimal or no time-savings? How long until it actually makes a profit?

and even then, it doesn't matter if that looks like ass, because someone with actual skill will do the proper drawing - like I've sent draft sketches to commissioners that are literal stick-figures done in Paint, because I have no drawing skills, but that's enough for them to get the idea
