Do you not think putting NI on rents would increase rental costs for tenants? Housing costs are the biggest problem for working people and the gap between wages and house prices needs to fall, and inequality reduce, if the economy is to work properly.

When I hear or see people saying the asylum hotel riots show the level of concern the public have, I think "no, it's a demonstration of how a rabble rouser can create hate and division". Hopefully people will realise just how dangerous Garage is well before the next General Election.

Wealth taxes on the rich are needed to tackle inequality so the economy can work properly. Stop looking at average incomes, too many working people already have no disposable income. The NHS will never be fixed while the UK continues to be owned by billionaires.

Michael Kaye (@michael-kay.bsky.social) reply parent
Economically, UK *is* broken. Inequality and debt (national, household, and deferred infrastructure maintenance) are the two cancers. Household incomes for the 95% are stuck indefinitely unless it is turned around with serious wealth taxes especially on the 1%.

Yes, they probably got the idea from Johnson. When are more than half a dozen republicans going to grow a backbone and stop DT in his tracks? They should all be asked whether it's greed or fear that keeps them loyal. Even if Maxwell does testify he's a paedophile, it won't finish him.

Michael Kaye (@michael-kay.bsky.social) reply parent
Basically agree. Real wages stopped rising 15 yrs ago after 60 years of them. Huge total debt (national, corporate, private) is making us poorer. Add on run down infrastructure which is just deferred tax/debt. I don't think this can be fixed in my lifetime. I'm 72.
Michael Kaye (@michael-kay.bsky.social) reply parent

Excellent video about the threat of Reform. Reform is the UK branch of MAGA, and it has set up a so-called think tank to solicit donations, particularly from the US. Labour must tighten electoral law to end large donations to political parties. If Reform wins in 2029, they’ll destroy the country.
