It varies. People like Seinfeld get tens of thousands of dollars. Touring professionals in the hundreds. Early stage gigs might pay $50. I know some clubs that pass a hat.
You have every right to say, “Entry level writers encouraged to apply. We recognize this is well below the rate that most established professionals receive.” But never say anything like, “The exposure will be good for your profile.” We can’t pay bills on exposure.

Were you required to teach as part of your PhD program? Many doctoral programs require it now in order to assure funding. Also, 5.7 years is not long, when you figure three years of class time, plus the time required to research, write and review a 300-page dissertation.

I’m curious: would it make a difference to you if major newspapers called for his impeachment or called on him to resign? I don’t think it would matter to Congress or to the White House. This isn’t 1974 or even 1998. But should news outlets take a stand anyway?
If I were advising him, I’d say, get to Canada ASAP and seek asylum. You can come back once there is a less-cruel administration.
