I've been as far west in ON as Kakabeka Falls. Been through AB and BC, flying to Calgary & renting a car. I know I've missed a lot, & my wife wants to see the Icefields Parkway. Wait 'til I show her the AB badlands, hoodoos, and dinosaur bones! I wanna take home a real live Winnipeg mozzie.

Several years ago we both figured there's no more need for Pride parades because they've won all the rights. But LGBTQ+ have never been more threatened than now, esp. with the cancer from the south & our own CPC creeps. Human rights are human rights.

I've started muting the Carney stans but yeah, the transphobes get blocked.

I could pick you up in my boat, but it's so tiny the neighbours would laugh.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
Never been to MB or SK, but I've seen similar landscapes in AB. Maybe I should talk my wife into a cross-country tour.

Totally Fargo'd.

The Libs do this every election. Bait the hook with items that sound vaguely progressive, win the election, then do little/nothing. Pharmacare & daycare coverage isn't everywhere & is in jeopardy, the CHA is weak, consumer agencies protect corporations, Carney's love of the env. is evaporating.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
It wasn't very good anyhow. Just some random shuffling of feet.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
They're (neo)Liberals. Can't do it, but would you care to see a performative dance?
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
He's incredibly phony. They are no friends of unions. They folded on the Air Canada strike because the public was behind the FAs. It surprised the AC CEO who mentioned that he was depending on the Libs forcing them back to work.

I'm afraid a UBI is a long way off from here but it's obviously the best and most desired option. The CDB is a first step, just a baby step.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
$200/month is the maximum, a drop in the bucket. PWDs were forgotten during the pandemic & the CDB is pathetic.

At the local public school, our neighbour told us about air filters being left unplugged.

Why I don't give blood anymore: - Canadian Blood Services dropped masking in July 2022, causing an instant drop in donations. - My wife is immune-suppressed & susceptible to all infections. - We work at reducing our risks & donating is too risky.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
And sick days were fewer in 2020 because most were working from home & couldn't get infected by colleagues. But nope, can't have that anymore.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, it's aluminum, but then I add 2 12-volt batteries for the trolling motor, and another one for the engine & electronics, plus camping & fishing gear. I can see myself driving up a hill en route to some fishing spot and the electric motor dies & I suddenly have a huge loss of power. Merde.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd like to see that diapered PoS walk a golf course instead of riding carts. Carts are for woke pussies like him. I'm buying some champagne for when this racist, rapist, paedophile finally croaks. What a celebration it will be.

So go with a powerful SUV on maybe a 3-year lease & then sell the boat, or dump the boat now. I so far haven't used the boat. Wet, cold spring, over-heated summer, and maybe now we're getting into reasonable temps.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm not in a rush & also in a quandary. I have a 17' boat & need something to haul it. My impression of hybrids is that if the electric motor is exhausted, I'm left with a 4-cylinder engine. My old RAV4 is a V6 with plenty of power.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
I've never heard of them. Looking them up now.

I got into a battle on FB with a former family member, an antivaxxer. I dug up & presented all the factual data on how vaccines saved & extended lives, but none of it mattered to her. She even chased me onto chat. I eventually dumped FB because of her. Sometimes it's just not worth it trying.

At the end of its life, the Corolla's shocks were dead, the A/C was rusted out, and all of its undercarriage was seized in rust. Thousands to fix, so we got shod of it. But she loved that car, with its upholstery and soft plastics, and she could turn on a dime or do a parallel park in seconds.

APA says delivery time for the Cross hybrid is very long. Toyota says that for all its hybrids. www.apa.ca/en/vehicles/...
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
I asked Toyota to check the battery β they said it was fine. It wasn't. I replaced it and then it was fine. Now I have a load tester and battery charger & can test battery life myself.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
Before I could get into my wife's Corolla, I had to slam the seat back all the way. She let me know so many times. Since the pandemic started, winter was tough on it so I'd have to drive it once in a while to keep the battery charged. Until it wouldn't, then I'd be out in the garage with my charger.
Mike Vlasic (@mikevlasic.bsky.social) reply parent
My wife has so far refused to go check them out. Some day soon, I hope.
