I second Andrew's appraisal. Had a very specific view of Sullivan and his musical legacy, and this doc totally recalibrated it. I no longer wonder "why was this guy on TV for so long?" and now think "how did he NOT get fired for so long?"

Saw him at a punk club in Detroit in...1982?...long before I knew anything about anything, and my 16 yr old brain genuinely could not process what I was seeing and hearing. What a joyous groove. (I think I saw the Dead Kennedys at the same venue a week later---quite the juxtaposition).

At the risk of poking a hornet's nest, I dont get the resurgence of Yacht Rock, much of which seemed to start ironically. When I first heard it, it drove me to shave my head and start going to Minor Threat and Cramps shows. 94% of these songs make me want to put my head in a bucket of ice water.

My grandfather was in a draconian religious boys school in Edinburgh and they tried to beat the left-handedness out of him. He renounced god, ran away, hopped on a boat, came to America, and invented things. As the only remaining lefty in the family, I like to share that story all the time.
