I like the second option. It's accurate, people who know their work know what you are talking about, and people who don't would only be interested in the article based on what comes after.

Even though it's not an official part of the series, this is probably one of my top three Contra games.

None of those links worked. They sure looked real, but they weren't. It made the whole thing up, and even made up fake sources. And if you Google the name of the game, you'll get no results. AI is great at sounding real, but remember it's often smoke and mirrors. (3/3)
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
It told me, with confidence, that while there aren't any, there was a canceled SNES game called "King K. Rool's Krazy Kartoon Kapers." I had never heard of this (and I feel like I would've), so I asked for some evidence. It provided links where people were talking about the game. (2/3)
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social)
You guys know about King K. Rool's Krazy Kartoon Kapers? I wanted to know if there was a video game with a 4-word title, each starting with the letter "K" (for a "4K" joke that's not important now). I asked Gemini Pro, Google's best AI that they charge for (you get some free queries each day).(1/3)

Do we think there's a human at the helm of Polygon's account, or it's just a bot that automatically posts things? Like, a human would notice and fix the invalid handle, right?

Finally watching Star Trek: Lower Decks. Really enjoying it! Great watch for people who grew up in the TNG era.

Fun game!

Love that they name checked DJ Hero, a fantastic series that came out just a little too late. Looking forward to seeing what this is.
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social)
I really enjoyed the Sea of Stars expansion, Throes of the Watchmaker. More of what I loved, and friendly for players who haven't played it in a while. Looking forward to Sabotage's next game.
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
The arcade game was Super Off-Road. I played it on several systems, and until your post, I'd never heard it with "Racer" in the title. If magazines were using it, maybe that was a working title?
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
Are there any instances of it officially including the word "Racer?"
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly my thought. Maybe certain things are colored, then later you discover what the colors mean, so you then want to go back over everything you've seen?
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
Okay, so we're at best 5 years away from one, and at worst 3 years away from the whole team being suddenly fired.

I'm going to hang on to Assistant as long as I can. Assistant is what I want, Gemini is what Google desperately wants investors to believe I want.

I'd put money on there being post launch DLC that brings the two stories together and resolves the CV1 cliffhanger.

My game of the week so far (haven't watched everything yet) has to be There Are No Ghosts at the Grand. House Flipper + cosmic horror + musical, looks like a lot of fun

Same, and I think it's because of the launch being all about Mario Kart. If they were launching with a new Zelda or a 3D Mario or something, I think I'd be counting the days.

For me, it was showing 25% off Extra and 33% off Premium, bringing Premium within ~$6 of Extra.

My biggest complaint about high-end handhelds, starting with the Switch, has been grip comfort. This looks like that was a priority, and that's exciting

I also like it when, upon clearing the game, you're given an opportunity to save that puts you right before that point.

The Rhythm Heaven Groove announcement nearly had me in tears. We get to live the next year knowing that a new game is coming, just like we've lived the last six years for Hollow Knight

4 and Rogue felt more like they were transitional, setting things up for later. Unity and Syndicate didn't move anything forward at all, and I had my first child right after Syndicate, so I haven't played the RPGs yet. One day!
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
And the main reason I was excited about it was because I, like you, am into the modern day stuff, and if it was optional, there would be nothing stopping them from having plenty of it. No pressure to keep it short so people could get back to the historical fiction
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
I was actually excited when they talked about AC Infinity, and how the central hub would host all the modern day happenings, and then you would jump into the Animus for the main games. It seemed like the perfect compromise, where people who didn't want to do the modern day didn't have to
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
I found it tough as a kid, but when I played it later and took some paper notes, I found it pretty straightforward.
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent

Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
I think that's because all digital games will just be cheaper. This was meant to push people towards digital when the prices were the same, but now, those savings will just be baked into the price.

If it's just a hardware reveal, I'm expecting just a heavily edited, few minute video like we got for the Switch. That could very well be just a drop. Now, the software reveal, that'll be a big deal.

It's not confirmed, but the other games in the series stayed for only 1 year, and this was released early February, so it's a strong possibility.

I have one, love it. So much more comfortable than Kishi or Backbone. I wish the connector was longer so I didn't have to remove my phone case every time I attach it, but that's my only complaint.

Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
Hopefully there's some sort of upgrade path. If they don't announce one soon, I think sales of the base version are just going to bottom out immediately.

It's eligible next year. The article even quickly mentions that in the end. Whenever the cutoff is, something good will be released right after that.
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
It's gotten to the point where I play a trailer, and immediately skip to halfway through, because they're always front loaded with cinematics. If there isn't gameplay at the halfway point, I'm on to the next trailer, and if there isn't gameplay THERE, I usually just move on entirely.

The Longest Journey was my favorite for the longest time, the only thing that might top it (for me!) is Unavowed
Mike Kelehan (@mkelehan.bsky.social) reply parent
And FF10, because it didn't use ATB or have an overworld map. And FF9, because the characters didn't look realistic. And FF8, because of drawing magic. And FF7, because it was heavy on cinematics and had a three character party.

I remember a Criminal Minds episode where a character was into Dead or Alive, as a plot point, because it's a fighting game that's less about reaction and more about anticipating what your opponent is going to do. When it came time to finally show the game... it was just a generic light gun shooter.
