The decline of local media/rise of Fox News/corporate takeover of news syndicates has to be a factored here too. I would venture a guess that as more people shifted to getting their news from national broadcast outlets (because there’s no local alternative presenting a differing view)

If I were an establishment pol of any affiliation, I’d either be afraid of this guy (because he’s good) or I’d learn from him (also because he’s good).
This is very well done, both in terms of delivery (he’s smooth but the bit with him failing to speak a foreign language is very relatable) and production (very clear and clean use of maps and stats).
A knock-on effect of this “mass exodus”could be a diversification of the force which…not the worse outcome!

Another thing that jumps out in the article is something that conservatives frequently accuse liberals of, which is a sort of tut-tutting judgement about lifestyle choices that don’t comport with their worldview. The shot about the liberal boyfriend and the 30 something women w/careers…woof.
I find it somewhat hard to take this seriously when this is a movement filled with vaccine skeptics, supplement grifters, and a slew of people who got upset when Michelle Obama suggested that better eating habits would pay off with better health outcomes for the general population. 🤷♂️

You’re not ever going to be able to fully control what happens at a mass open protest like. People coming under an organized banner (say, a union) might adhere to a call to leave flags at home, but at some point it’s not realistic to expect total conformity in these situations.
Is the thinking that if everyone showed up at a protest without national flags and acted perfectly rational (in the face of possibly hostile law enforcement) that Trump wouldn’t be able to spin things? Said somewhat TIC, but should we just send robots out to stand in the streets?
Noted, but doesn’t make my point incorrect as this has been an ongoing piece of the Republican strategy for decades at this point. And the threat was loud & clear to people like us. Citizens do need to do their part to be informed, but we also have a broken media ecosystem that plays a part here.
And so is not having a political party that is completely oriented toward preventing free and fair elections…lotta blame to go around here.
