If you have a choice, it's still not the best for viewing but a lot of us watch our TV in rooms not dedicated to that purpose.
In real democracies, they never do. Which is just fine.
Proper tilt and the right seating can eliminate neck problems. Modern TVs are a lot less heat sensitive, and if you have a decent mantle to deflect convective flow you're just fine. I did a lot of 'engineering' putting mine up. Lower than yours and the screen never gets above 35C.
