Ten years ago today. A moment of horror, and a moment of hope that Western electorates and state might get past cruelty and indifference and actually live up to their moral obligations. And now, most of our citizens just don't care

I’ve tried to resist joining in with the flag discourse because of the shameful and nasty pile-on that happened to me on Twitter last year started by people I considered friends, continued by people happy to throw me under a bus. But was I wrong? Not allowing replies to this. Last year hurt enough.

is it only asylum seekers our Labour Prime Minister would object to living next to or would the sentiment apply to black and brown people in general? if merely the former, would he like to explain how he knows people he sees, say, in the street, actually are asylum seekers and not citizens?

Reminder that small boat migration is c.5% of all UK immigration. And asylum-seeking generally is far lower per head of UK population than most other west European countries e.g. 🇩🇪 🇫🇷 🇮🇹 🇪🇸 🇧🇪 🇳🇱 🇦🇹 🇮🇪. Yes even Ireland takes way more.
