Pure coincidence that I'm finishing up this enraging & tender book right as school starts. So glad it surfaced on my TBR pile when it did. Many families in my district are in the Kafkaesque, no-win scenarios Goldstone describes. I'm glad to have that sobering reality at the forefront of my mind.

My opinion is influenced by middle school perspective . . . Arenāt specialists teachers too?? Classroom management in your space, in your subject, is your responsibility! I know they see students way less often, and also they need to be good at making connections with their rosters as community too

Tools like these have been instrumental in my classroom; both in teaching kids to receive feedback and get them to progress as writers. As I loop back with the same group it's rare we see the same issues present themselves. The reflection is there, even in thirteen year olds.

Making friends, building a support system, figuring out a network to rely on . . . These skills and people are always needed in addition to anything you do to find a romantic partner. It is emotionally healthy to have more than one someone on your team who you can go to.

It would be really interesting if the walls were actually painted annually and kept clean throughout the academic year. Veteran teachers know that some of those posters and decorations are artfully placed over poorly drawn symbols that donāt reflect our vibes.

Wouldnāt dramatic irony require author intent? There is a tension when watching R&J and Titanic of Hope vs hopelessness knowing that they are tragedies. On the other hand, the foreshadowing in The Sixth Sense gives an uncanny feeling while still letting the twist simmer underneath (until spoilers)
