Sometimes I wanna vent about stuff I don't like. But I respect people who like it. Like Tim Burton. Or the Hobbit movies. Or Jurassic World.
You enjoy your take on it. I also skip the parts that are too much for me (VOY: Real Life or TNG: Dark Page for example). But pretending they don't exist? That's something I don't like. There's reality and there's personal preference. They are not interchangeable.
I for my part, also grew up with the positive message of Star Trek, the utopia part. Hard engraved into my mindset. Analyzing subtext, storytelling, metaphors and references, the darker parts, make it fun for me. They were always there. If you want to engage with it or not is your choice.

Hard disagree on all points. TOS was all about the interpersonal conflict between Spock, Kirk and Bones. TOS Federation tried to ax Kirk how many times again? Yes, Roddenberry tried to avoid crew conflict in early TNG, but that didnt turn out well. Missing lots of subtext clues.
the US military killing someone remotely, which is in the best case morally questionable, and in the worst case downright evil? No! Why would the US MILITARY ever do such a thing!!! They always have been such a beacon of goodness!

It's good to know that DS9 basically started as a western. Griefing widower moves to run-down town and becomes mayor. There's the grumpy sheriff, the shady bartender, the native hothead liaison of a spiritual people, the wise old veteran, the common man, the young naive doctor.
