The reason Charlie Kirk is being lionized by so many journalists is simple: he was very good at cultivating journalists and it seems a lot of journalists don't seem to understand the concept of being cultivated as a pet reporter in exchange for scoops or leads. They think he was their friend.
What this says to me is: 1) PROTEST WORKS. Pritzker and everyday Chicagoans effectively repelled the threat, at least for now. 2) They are weakened. Afaik it's the first time he's seriously threatened to do this in a GOP governor state. Which tells me they're feeling less confident facing off

There’s likely an organized campaign going on to incite you to say stuff that’s gonna get you suspended or banned (or worse). The right has mentioned the Bluesky reaction to this incident repeatedly. They’re here to find targets. Don’t let them rile you up and goad you into something you’ll regret.

I suspect that a not insignificant amount of the outrage and horror at Kirk's death is that theres an entire class of people in America who are more or less safe and stable and used to being able to speak and act without fear of any consequences whatsoever because they've insulated themselves well.
