I thought this was crazy. We had pizza last evening and because of my phone I could tell that the last previous time we ordered pizza was July of 2024. In our preCOVID life we would have had pizza once or twice a a month.
I never said anything but I do have an easy read face.
And they had sulfur water so everything smelled bad. I often just went hungry and found something at home.
So I got married at 18 and we ate lots of meals with in-laws. They were a hunting family. There was fried squirrel, squirrel and dumplings, squirrel stew and squirrel brains scrambled with eggs that I remember. MIL never took meat off the bone so there were all the rat bones plus shotgun pellets.

I rarely, very rarely saw horse flies until I had horses. Now down on the coast the yellow eyed flies would bother you like mosquitoes and are horrible. Except for the eyes they look like green eyed deer flies but are terribly aggressive.

The moose flies look like our horse flies. We get them all summer. When they bite we get a huge whelp or even bleeding from the bite.
