Once a year, Chicago closes Lake Shore Drive to cars and opens it up for people. #BikeTheDrive shows us what’s possible when we put people first. I’m running for State Senate to fight for the bike and pedestrian infrastructure we need. Learn more at nickforillinois.com.

Your electric bill is going up—45% since last summer. While ComEd profits and data centers are straining our grid, state legislators need to do more. I’m ready to fight for clean, affordable energy and for the people here in our district.

Illinois deserves a transit system that moves us faster, cleaner, and smarter. Electrifying Metra means quicker trips and cleaner air—and if we pair it with bold transit-oriented development, we can build new housing, shops, and community spaces right by our stations.
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social)
Thank you to everyone who joined our Opportunity Through Urbanism Town Hall with @chicagogrowthproj.bsky.social for a robust conversation about how denser housing and modernized transit can reshape Illinois for generations to come. We need to plan our cities for people—not cars.
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social)
Illinois can’t keep patching up a transit system from another era. We need electrified Metra lines, faster service, and a vision for high-speed Midwest rail. Springfield must rally experts and listen to neighbors to build transit that meets the moment. www.chicagobusiness.com/opinion/high...
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social)
In Illinois, we don’t need one Republican to pass a bill. What we really need? Democrats that FIGHT. Join the fight at nickforillinois.com.

My senate district in Illinois has one of the cleanest grids in America. On 98% of hours in a given year we have enough clean energy produced in northern Illinois to meet *100%* of electricity demand. @nickforillinois.bsky.social wants to do even more as we electrify!
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social) reply parent
To bring costs down, Illinois must: ✅ Fix the Illinois Power Agency’s funding mechanism so it can keep procuring affordable, clean energy for our state ✅ Create carve outs for battery storage ✅ Repeal the nuclear moratorium allowing new full-scale nuclear energy to be built
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social) reply parent
Chicago once led the way here. The John Hancock Center was one of the first skyscrapers in the world powered entirely by electricity. But today, too many households are stuck with rising electricity bills that are among their biggest expenses, because of increasing energy demand.
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social)
Last night’s salon on energy policy made one thing clear: we need to use every tool in the toolbox to build a cleaner, more reliable grid—including scaling up nuclear energy and battery storage.

We also need to rein in private equity from buying up housing stock and price-gouging rents. We can address this by creating a predictable formula for rents and property taxes so folks like us aren’t footing the bill for corporate greed.

In most areas across Illinois, it’s illegal to build coach houses and four-flats right now. Changing state law around this will grow the housing stock, and allow people to invest in a home that could otherwise be out of reach.

Three years ago, Roe v. Wade fell. As a pro-choice organizer, I saw it coming—and got to work. We organized across Illinois and passed the Reproductive Health Act to codify Roe. Now we must expand access statewide, protect trans rights, and take on insurance companies.

Agree, we need to increase funding for outreach on CTA which would help with that. Transit ambassadors could do that outreach too. Community-based providers (not law enforcement) trained in this form of specialized care works in other areas, can do the same here!

The CTA is falling apart, and City Hall still refuses to take it seriously. Riders are ghosted, platforms feel unsafe, and trust in the system is crumbling. We need a real, nationwide search for bold leadership. www.chicagotribune.com/2025/06/19/b...

If we’re talking about housing, we also need to tackle outdated building codes—and we need legislators who are paying attention. I’m running for State Senate to be that leader. Let’s legalize more types of housing, lower costs, and build the future our neighborhoods deserve.
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social) reply parent
Research shows single-stair buildings are just as safe—with sprinklers and alarms. They also allow for more natural light, different types of housing (1 BR, 2 BR, etc) on the same lot, and could lead to more affordable rents. www.vox.com/housing/4101...
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social) reply parent
Vermont, Tennessee, and many other states have made single-stair reforms. Why hasn’t Illinois? www.niskanencenter.org/understandin...
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social) reply parent
Reforming this outdated rule would allow more of that “missing middle” housing—like courtyard buildings and 4- or 6-flats—to be built near transit and jobs all across the state.
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social) reply parent
Illinois needs single-stair reform. Right now, Illinois requires two stairwells in most apartment buildings—even ones on small lots. I know, it sounds minor. But this requirement adds up to $250,000 in project costs and eats up space that could be used for actual housing.
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social)
Chicago needs more housing. But outdated building codes are driving up costs and delaying projects for years. We need structural reform—and someone in the State Senate who will lead on pro-housing policy to increase our housing stock and rein in skyrocketing construction costs.
Nick for Illinois (@nickforillinois.bsky.social)
