Had a heart-to-heart with my youngest. He heads to college in a few days. I let him know that there’s always an off ramp. I told him I believe in him and I know he’ll do just fine but if he ever needs a break to not be afraid to say it. I learned this from watching my oldest struggle in silence.

My son is now a freshman in college. The advice that I’m giving him is very simple: forget you are a US citizen study like you are a citizen of the world (he’s a linguistics major), travel. Make plans to live outside USA at least for a bit. Think globally, act locally. No matter where. Be kind.
