Staying centrist isn't moving to the right. We just want them to be more left. But we're not a majority—and we're talking about numbers. As for "many Democratic voters," "many" doesn't mean much, plus their being-tiredness generally won't affect how they vote when it's Trump vs pretty much anyone.
That's not what I'm asking. All candidates "lose voters," because all candidates make some people either stay home or switch sides. So we're looking for the one who'll do the least of that, yes? In terms of sheer numbers, what candidate will Newsom lose more voters than?

I'm glad we're talking about winning. If we're talking purely about numbers, it doesn't look to me as though Newsom will hurt Democratic voter turnout significantly, except in spaces where people are irate that the Democrats aren't less rightist/centrist, which are pretty small spaces.

Almost no one will understand both halves of this reference, but alt text written by a competent human being is to accessibility what a really thoughtful cue sheet is to randonneuring. You can always tell when a cue sheet was generated by Google Maps. Because you get lost more along the route.
One thing about being as smart as you can and not going along with prevailing attitudes is how completely stupid it sometimes feels.

I listen to Conservative radio. If you're not clear on how they can be so lockstep stupid and belligerent, try it. Right-wing outlets spend FAR more time repeatedly denigrating "liberals" in mocking tones than on any issues. It's a clear line from Christian evangelical radio of the 20th century.
It's pretty great to have the right person through all this.
