Description from Wikipedia: ā€œAmmi majus is a herbaceous annual, or rather a biennial that behaves like an annual in cultivation. The lower leaves are 1-2-pinnate, upper leaves 2(-3)-pinnate with serrate lobes. The inflorescence is compound umbel; they are white umbrella-shaped flowers like those of Queen Anne's lace, blooming June–July and fruiting July–August.

For #LaborDay I’d like to share this photo of picture day at the knitting mill. Thought to be Pennsylvania, about 1905

A group of about 50 women and 5 men arranged outdoors in 4 rows. The first row of 10 women is seated. Everyone else is standing, all in front of a dark colored clapboard mill building fitted with closely set 6 over 6 windows. One window is open. Large text is painted on the building. The text that’s visible reads ā€œTTING MILLSā€ The women are all quite young, some just barely in their teens. Many of the women wear light colored blouses with elbow length sleeves and long dark skirts. Several of the women are wearing large coverall aprons. The 3 men at the center back appear to be wearing work clothes. A young man on the left wears a waistcoat and jacket but no collar or tie. An older man on the right wears a waistcoat over a light shirt worn with a tie and a stiff collar. He is looking to his right (possibly trying to spot the person who just giggled)

Artist’s painting of a hippo on a flake of limestone šŸ¦›ā¤ļø Perhaps a practice sketch, or just for the joy of painting 3,500 years ago! From Deir el-Bahri, Thebes, Egypt, c. 1479–1425 BC. šŸ“· The Met www.metmuseum.org/art/collecti... #Archaeology

Photo of an Ancient Egyptian artists’s small, naturalistic painting of a standing hippopotamus on a flake of white limestone, dated c. 1479–1425. The hippo is painted in profile with head lowered and to the right. The body is outlined with black paint and painted brown. The belly, eyes, and ears are painted red. Although the ancient Egyptians were well aware of the danger and destructive power of hippos, this painted hippo has rather a friendly face! Dimensions: H. 10.8 cm (4 1/4 in); W. 12 cm (4 3/4 in); Th. 1.7 cm (11/16 in) Egyptian artists made practice sketches on flakes of limestone, sometimes for use as templates when transferring an image to the wall of a tomb or a temple. Limestone flakes were readily available because of the constant construction of temples and rock-cut tombs. A number of such sketches were recovered at Deir el-Bahri during the 1922-23 MMA excavations. This painting was acquired by the museum in the division of finds.

I think that owls evaluate the entire world through 2 questions: 1. Are edible? 2. Do you have anything edible with you?

The morning glory is an imperialist thug. I’ve no idea why this volunteer plant is so vigorous this year. #gardening

Feelings are complicated. I bought these fabrics in 2020 for making masks for family members, as a change from all the floral prints I had in my fabric stash. Just came across them today. Can't throw them away, never want to see them again.

Two folded up pieces of fabric. One has vintage tractors in blues, greens, oranges, and reds against a cream background. The other has small rectangular pictures of vintage John Deere tractors against a green background

A sleeved tunic, made from linen, from Egypt, Roman Period, 4th century AD. The garment, designed for a child, likely around five years old, has survived remarkably well due to the arid climate. The tunic's design allowed for adjustments as the child grew. 🧵 1/2 šŸŗ #archaeology šŸ“· me

A photo of a tunic with long sleeves, laid flat on display. The fabric is light brown and worn, decorated with embroideries and appliquƩs. Horizontal lines run across the waist area, visibly dividing the fabric. The garment shows signs of age with fraying edges and faded sections.
