Accepted an estimate for a charger install, put down a deposit, scheduled an install. They came to do the install and decided nah what you really need is a vastly more expensive service. Cool cool.

Every single social justice concept — safe spaces, intersectionality, microaggressions, representation — is embraced by the right when they talk about men or whites or straights.

Just signed up for Zelle for the first time to avoid a 3% credit card fee to pay a contractor. The number of times I had to promise that I was not getting scammed and how there would be no help if I did get scammed was the best advertisement for credit cards I ever experienced.

Yes and I might end up going with smart load management since it might be the easiest way to get a charger installed to code. But at minimum it’s $1000 on top of the rest of the install. That’s about 9,000 miles worth of gas.

An EV charger install requires the electrician to preform a load calculation. One electrician told me it’s stupid that’s what fuses and breakers are for. The other told me it’s very important he’s seen terrible things happen when cars charge all night. Who’s right? 🤔 (I know what I think)

Well that doesn't include the charger which I already bought, but NJ has a separate $250 rebate on the cost of a charger. The electrician complained A LOT about how frustrating and onerous it is to get a permit for an EV charger, thus the $700 permit fee. We are making this too hard.

It’s slightly less bad then it seems since the utility will kick back $1,500 for a permitted install and then I can take advantage of off peak charging discounts. If they didn’t offer that carrot I’d run the install myself, for probably about $300 of copper.

Yep the Polestar2 was the only EV I drove that drove and handled like a driver's car. Looks like you have the plus and pilot pack, which is exactly what I am looking for. I wont be upset if I end up with the performance pack too though.

PS how do you like the Polestar, that’s what I’m in the market for?

So this kinda gets to my point. My utility does not support charging rebates with the car's built in charger. I need a professionally installed ChargePoint unit. If I use my Polestar's charger I forfeit any rebate, this stuff is too complicated and varies county by county sometimes!

So I am not claiming that lack of a level 2 charger for a few weeks should be insurmountable for anyone. I drive a little too much for level one charging, but if I swapped cars with my wife it won't be an issue at all. It's just that people don't like thinking about this stuff.

So I can wait and deal with it, but it's enough that I considered just running the circuit myself. It's not rocket science, but to get the incentives it has to be professionally installed. Its just one of the many friction points that come with EV ownership, that I think we have to do better on.

Taking advantage of these incentives means weeks, maybe a month without a charger. Thats kinda a big deal! How do you charge your car while you wait? Especially if you don't want to mess with Tesla? There is a public level 2 charger within walking distance of my house and I have too many cars

As I inch closer to EV ownership my mind turns to the charger. My utility and state actually has great incentives for EV chargers. $250 rebate for a charger, $1500 for a professional install and $.105 cent rebate per kWh for the energy to actually charge your car, great! But there's a catch.

Ugh I have to listen to these things every weekend. If I buy this maybe I can figure out a way to fight back.

Ehh to be fair that’s mostly in the tools. People spend years of their lives and countless dollars to make wood ever more square. Big clamps and wood putty can do wonders.

In a woodshop teacher, it’s good to know my skills are still needed.

A quiet little protest sign in my neighborhood put up by someone who would probably rather not draw attention to themselves. It’s little things like this, that simply didn’t exist 8 months ago, that sometimes get to me.

I love a fancy point and shoot I wish I never sold my GR-1 but there is no way I could ever spend $1000 on one. Luckily my XA scratches this itch.
