I've taken that train and it arrived over an hour late to that station. There is nothing nearby and I was sweating bullets at the thought of spending the night sleeping on the floor with about 30 other people.
Would like to add this is a North America problem, not just the US. Mexico’s population is highly concentrated and there’s basically no passenger rail service at all. More than half of Canada’s population lives in a straight line over pretty flat ground and they don’t have high speed rail there
“Build some damn trains” is 100% advice we should be taking in this country. But yes, it is utterly impossible to go most places in the U.S. by train any more. And when it is possible, it’s hard to overstate how inconvenient the trains are in most of the country.
