Kazuo Umezu's Horror Theater is off next week for a different event, but if you're local to the KC area, @elijahlafollette.bsky.social and I will be back on September 16, and every Tuesday thereafter, for this month-long celebration of the "god of horror manga."

The first night of Kazuo Umezu's Horror Theater was SNAKE GIRL AND THE SILVER-HAIRED WITCH (1968) - and it's only gonna get weirder from here!

I have to say that this is one of my favorite paintings that I’ve done in a while. It was really fun to come up with titles for all the cheesy horror movies on the posters and VHS tapes. My favorite title for a horror move is “The Witch and the Pendulum”, I’ve included this title in several of my “little watercolors”. ANYWAY! I think this watercolor is just fun :) This watercolor is also featured in my 3D book! I think that this painting works well in 3D as there are several different dimensions! image image

The Shrinky Dinks themselves are alright, despite featuring Angel but NOT Lilo, for some reason. But the real MVP here is the diorama backdrop of Lilo's house all decorated for the season, which also makes a nice staging point for my Scooby-Doo keshi figures.

A diorama backdrop of Lilo's house decorated for Halloween, in front of some books. A package of Halloween-themed LILO & STITCH Shrinky Dinks, in front of some books. That same diorama backdrop of Lilo's house decorated for Halloween, in front of some books, now with Shrinky Dinks of Stitch (dressed as a mummy), Angel (dressed as a mermaid), and Scrump (with bat wings). That same diorama backdrop of Lilo's house decorated for Halloween, in front of some books, now with two Scooby-Doo keshi figures, one of the Creeper and one of the Green Ghost (who, in this case, is blue).

Leaving everything else aside, "museums don't contain enough stuff about the future" is... an opinion you can have, I guess.

I'm done with conventions this year (and maybe longer?) and it's been a while since I did a proper sale, so I'm selling everything I have left in inventory at steep discounts--and I put the ebooks on sale, too. Follow this guy to the deals. www.muzzlelandpress.com/shop

Hey, you know what a cool website/digital magazine/15 year repository of critical thought is? @unwinnable.com! Did you know you could subscribe to Unwinnable? You CAN: unwinnable.com/subscribe/ Readers and subscribers keep Unwinnable going!

Subscribe to Unwinnable or Go to Hell, says the top text. Then there is a really lovely painting of a knight beset by demons that actually looks pretty cool, so maybe you WANT to go to hell, which is a bit of a mixed message but hey, we're cultural critics, not marketing wonks. The bottom text says: The Greatest Cultural Criticism in This World or the Next and then the subscription URL: https://unwinnable.com/subscribe/

Watching the swanky new 4K of DEADLY SPAWN. As movies like this go, this might just be the best one ever made.

A kid is lying on the floor of a room filled with monster paraphernalia while his aunt talks to him from the doorway in this shot from THE DEADLY SPAWN (1983).

Just discovered there's an english subtitled version of PSYCHIC VISION JAGANREI on youtube. Early faux-doc horror about a haunted j-pop idol and her hit single! it's very good and weird! For fans of Noroi!

Once they catch the cattle rustlers and thereby (apparently) end the book, they are transported back to the library in Mammoth Mansion and the actual book ends. This takes up one (partial) page.

Aside from the names of our two leads (and their hometown of Bedrock) and one passing mention of Pebbles, this could have been an entirely unlicensed book set in the present day.

Strangest of all, at no point either before or after they are transported to the Old West does the book make even a single reference, direct or otherwise, to the stone age setting of The Flintstones.
