Spot on, and it's not as if Russia/USSR don't have form for shoring down planes over their territory. I'm fairly sure that a simple warning that NATO will shoot down any Russian plane flying over its territory will be enough, but actions speak louder than words.

I have to disagree. I've 30+ years experience as a software developer, and while all software development has it’s problems, I don’t see any exceptional issues here. Besides, for many people, the data for this ID scheme is already held in government databases.
Fair enough, but if France are not choosing a specific returnee, then the deal still requires the UK to accept one of theirs, and I dare say France will have the final say on the acceptability of whoever gets sent to them. I still maintain that the scheme is a joke.
This is a completely different situation. We will only be able to send someone back to France if they have someone to send back to us, that means that the numbers are unlikely ever to be that great. It's a migrant swap scheme, not a migrant return scheme.

I've every expectation that the high court will soon be putting a stop to this, simply because as far as I can tell, there is no rational process for selecting those that the government want to return to France, and the judges tend to rule against things that they can’t judge on.
