Technically the total is zero, as the French have flown one of their's to us as a swapsie.

True π
Under the pre Brexit 'Dublin Agreement' in 2018 it was 205 (only 51 to France). We took in 1215 in return π€
And? Brexit meant all previous deals were off the table. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.
The point I was trying to make was that like so many things, EU wide deals often don't work in practice. Of the claims submitted by the UK EU countries only looked at 8% of them. Italy didn't even take part. Meanwhile the UK responded to far more. At least bilateral deals have a chance of working π€
Whatever, but it clearly isn't working. Yesterday, over 1000 migrants crossed the channel. news.sky.com/story/more-t...
And a number will be detained and returned to France. As was found in the US when this approach was taken by Biden, it takes time but it does work. People aren't going to spend money to end up back where they were. There isn't really an alternative approach π€
This is a completely different situation. We will only be able to send someone back to France if they have someone to send back to us, that means that the numbers are unlikely ever to be that great. It's a migrant swap scheme, not a migrant return scheme.
You are wrong on that. It is not based on someone that France wants to return to the UK. The UK has opened up an online legal safe route from France for people who want to claim Asylum in the UK. They are already doing so in volume. It is a balanced scheme but there will be no shortage of numbers π€
Fair enough, but if France are not choosing a specific returnee, then the deal still requires the UK to accept one of theirs, and I dare say France will have the final say on the acceptability of whoever gets sent to them. I still maintain that the scheme is a joke.
So basically there is no point of the EU, is it? It just doesn't suit third countries like the UK.
If I remember rightly in 2018 the UK was part of the EU. Seems as if we can make better arrangements for the UK as a third country. Seems the EU Commission is happier too π
Probably you are right. Good riddance of the UK. You were always problematic. Good luck with Brexit π€·ββοΈ
Thanks. Getting on fine thank you. 'Relationship with the EU' is now 14 out of 15 on the YouGov survey of UK issues. The 'Brexit' drama over π
Excellent ratio π
