As to politicians feeling that it is necessary to have flags on display behind them when broadcasting, it is surely a sign of national insecurity. It makes us look like some South American dictatorship, unsure of who will be governing the country next week.
It is surely the essence of being British that we do not feel it necessary to go waiving our flags at every opportunity, anymore than we do not feel it necessary to put the name of our nation on our postage stamps.

Coal is irrelevant these days. A more interesting comparison is with geothermal which continues to find its capital costs 'challenging'. And geothermal has had many decades to become cheaper.
