Many thanks for this. I have spotted but a few 'normal' galls, this year, but plenty of knopper galls. Are these a good substitute for, or even better than, 'normal' galls for making ink?

I’ve only made ink from knopper galls once, but I found it just as good as marble galls. I just didn’t like picking them because of the stickiness! Also, they went mouldy quite quickly after picking, so you need to use them straight away
Hmm. Maybe I will try pickling them in weak vinegar until I am ready to use them.
Great selection!
There are more out there, just not yet quite "ripe'.
