Fun fact! Even though they are associated with summer, key limes are a late fall/winter fruit.I have a key lime tree in my yard. They start ripening mid to late November. My kiddo is a December baby and asks for key lime pie made with our limes for her birthday every year.

One of my utmost favorites is Spiritfarer. It's part puzzle, part cozy management game. It does deal with dying and death and there were a few spots where I ugly cried. But it's such a beautiful game with a gorgeous soundtrack. It got me through the pandemic and I replay it frequently.

As a Californian with a partner who works in state government, it's been very frustrating watching everyone be like "praise Daddy Newsom." Meanwhile, dude has checked out of doing any true work for his state. Everything he's doing currently is a calculated move for the presidential office.
I just celebrated my 21st wedding anniversary with my husband. We cooked a lovely meal together then had what we call a bistrot date. We let the kids eat whatever they wanted, wherever they wanted and we took our fancy little meal to a quiet room, turned on soft music, lit some candles, and enjoyed.

We stayed like that for the remainder of the song, and in that brief moment, I was reminded of how rich my life is. I realize I am privileged. I realize not everyone has the luxury to revel in small things like this. I'm lucky I can and it certainly gives me the strength to keep fighting.
None of them are particularly partial to classical music (they don't dislike it, but they don't seek it out), but they're all standing there, transfixed. My 13 year old, who hasn't been super cuddly for years, is now on the couch, head on my shoulder. And it was just such a beautiful month. (4)
As we're sitting there, enjoying a feast of sight and sound (Claire de Lune is one of my favorite classical pieces), I notice all of the kids (my 2, my niece, her friend) have started to migrate to where we're sitting. (3)

My oldest kiddo has been puppy sitting her and her brother. She's leaned into the dramatic shenanigans this week since her humans aren't home. This picture was snapped shortly after she yelled at my youngest for diving into the deep end, then went and sat in the bushes, watching like a hawk.
That's Maddie. She's the pool lifeguard. She belongs to my friends.

While they are not pacifist, they value peaceful solutions first and view violence and war as a last resort.
My spouse works with an incredible Sikh man.He's the most gentle soul I've ever met, but he faced ugliness and hate after 9/11 and made a conscious decision for the safety of his family to stop wearing his turban, to cut his hair and beard, and to basically "blend in." It's heartbreaking.

I fear for my Sihk friends as well. I know how they were treated after 9/11 because ignorance saw them as terrorists because of the turban they wore.

Agreed. Plus, Newsom isn't liked much outside of CA. Hell, he's polarizing in CA. I really don't think he's the answer, but we'll see. I've said it many times already. If he's the best choice, I'll vote for him. But damn, I know I'm not the only one who is tired of picking the lesser of two evils.

Adding my voice to this sentiment. While equal pay is important, it's not going to matter if steps are not taken to stop the blatant misuse of power that is happening currently. Stop sitting on your hands and do something.

No candidate is ideologically pure. No candidate is perfect. Even Obama did questionable things. That's my point. And pointing out Newsom's flaws, even while he's doing good and standing up to the regime, isn't a bad thing. Period.
Perhaps Amanda is following the press that she's speaking of in order to point out their misdeeds? That's important too. I feel we need to pay attention to and point out the press outlets that are pumping out propaganda, lest we be led astray.
As much as you wanna paint me as unhelpful in my criticisms, I'm not against doing what is necessary to stop what's happening currently. If we can stop it. But assuming we can, we still need to take steps to fix the obvious flaws.
If that's what it takes to stop this, obviously I'm for it. Clearly that's the lesser of two evils in this very flawed, two party system.

Being vocally critical of Newsom? I feel that the criticism is constructive. My whole point in all of this is that we can be two things at once. We can be supportive of Newsom while also examining his actions with a critical lens. I personally don't feel like ignoring his flaws is helpful at all.

Because up to this point, every single thing he's done, every decision he's made has been political posturing. There's been rumblings for a long time that he's gonna run for president. All of this makes him look much more favorable.
This. This is what I'm getting at. I appreciate Newsom's courage. I appreciate that he's standing toe to toe with a fascist regime. I appreciate that he's fighting for us. And I stand with him every step of the way. But that doesn't mean I can't also speak up about his questionable actions.
I'm learning to speak up. This is a big one because I'm a survivor of childhood trauma. My parents were addicts. There was domestic violence in my house. I'm also a survivor of SA. I've been taught to be small since I was little, so taking up space and being loud still feels new and scary. (3)

Who's focusing only on the flaws? I've said many times that I commend him. But I'm also allowed to be critical. I'll say it again, we should be critical of our ejected officials. Hold them accountable. Part of how we've got here is because the right hasn't done that.
Again, I commend his current actions, and I'll cheer him on. He's certainly doing more than a lot of our elected officials are doing. But seeing his decisions play out the last 6 years, he's gotta do a lot more to convince me that his actions are more than just political posturing.
We can celebrate it while still being critical of our leaders. I feel like that's part of what we're fighting for here. If we don't hold our leaders accountable,which is what we're doing, hell, it's what Newsom is doing, what are we even doing?
But also, hi, did you see the investigation happening in Rockland County, NY now? I'm no election denier, but I've said from the start that things are fishy. The fact that they're looking into election results there is certainly bolstering my suspicions.
Best believe if there's a better candidate put forth in the primaries, that's who I'm picking. If he makes it past the primaries, that's certainly a different story.
