Now that's something I understand. Because I see amazingly skilled kids do this, become so technically proficient, but they don't have the life experience yet translate feelings into music. That takes time and getting your soul kicked around. Again, I think it's time and finding the door.
I've sung in choirs, I love singing, but I'm also one who needs a guide, a conductor, to get it right. I did one Fringe show where I had to sing a song not in my key, no help, and it was humiliating and I stopped for a long time. I can do it again, but I'll need someone I can trust to perform.
I really want to play a musical instrument, like piano or violin. I look at videos and read theory, tried some piano apps... and right now I suck, but not because I'm not talented, because i know the time that will be needed to do this. It's a lot, and at some point I'll have that focus.
For years I tried to understand editorial comics, I did stuff for the school paper and it always looked wrong, so I stuck with what I liked, comic books. And then in 2015 I watched a doc on Herblock and I finally saw what I wasn't getting. And then I figured it out.
I get that, and sometimes it takes a shift in what you're doing to find the way to go. It can be one new technique that does it, a teacher to point out where you're stuck... or more years of trying. I sucked when I started, I still suck at some things, but I'm set on figuring it out.
I look at some of that art and cringe at how rough it is. I could have gotten frustrated and stopped at any time, but I didn't because I wanted to figure it out and get better. That's all talent is, stamping your feet and not stopping. It can be so overwhelming sometimes, so yes people stop.
I've taught kids how to draw their friend's faces in the space of a couple of hours. They went from scribbles to a somewhat recognizable face, with a few hints and shifts of how to see. After that, it's time and interest to keep going... and not getting distracted by a different interest.
Talent is curiosity, it's being willing to tackle the puzzle set before you, to figure out why the picture in your head isn't matching up to what you just drew. That doesn't require being born a bit taller or a bit faster, just the ability to not hear the judgement.
You don't have to be physically gifted to succeed at drawing, just mentally stubborn enough to keep at it. The reason most people "suck" at drawing, why they can only draw like 5 year olds, is because that's when they stopped drawing, that's when someone said to them "that's not a dog!".

Talent isn't rare. Throw an apple & you hit someone with talent. Perseverance? rare. Work ethic? exceedingly rare; the willingness to grind. Being able to endure the scorn, rejection & privation a life in the arts dooms you to in the United States is unicorn-scarce. But talent? Talent is everywhere.
