I dabbled with Micro Four-Thirds about 10 years ago, then the Z6 and Z7 three years ago, but they never worked for me. I just prefer big cameras, purely from an ergonomic perspective.
I know it sounds incredibly pathetic, but I was actually nervous & anxious at the thought of openly carrying a camera around. Then I took the first couple and it all came back; it felt like the most normal thing in the world, wandering about with a big Nikon, randomly staring at empty buildings.
I’ve long considered a tilt-shift lens for this kind of work, but that entails bringing along one of my tripods - which are the least used photo equipment I own. I don’t even like bringing a shoulder bag out with me.
Thanks Mark, means a lot. At the moment it’s a vague idea of decay and dereliction hidden in plain sight, of industry long forgotten. A slow start to a very long process, but it’s made me feel better already.

Back in about ‘96 I think it was. Fell asleep in the armchair (I worked long shifts at the time) and woke up as Nosferatu (1922) had just come on TV. Half-asleep and utterly mesmerised by the whole thing, which prompted a deep dive into silent horror cinema which persists to this day.
That’s a belter of a memory, can see how that would would stick.
