I’ve long considered a tilt-shift lens for this kind of work, but that entails bringing along one of my tripods - which are the least used photo equipment I own. I don’t even like bringing a shoulder bag out with me.

I use a (tilt-)shift lens all the time, 100% handheld, mainly because I'm on a bike and can't bring a tripod with me. Works wonderfully. Occasionally I have to make minor adjustments in post, but that's it.
That’s good to know, thanks Dave appreciate it 👍 I’ve always been led to believe a tripod was somewhat ‘necessary’.
Yep. Tripods. Used only when absolutely necessary. Hate the things. All the tilt shift stuff I’ve done in the past 10yrs was done handheld. Not light gear but still doable, depending on the camera and lens combo.
