Today, September 1st is Letterer Appreciation Day. Celebrated on Gaspar Saladino's birthday who was one of the greatest comic book letterers to ever pick up a pen. So, please appreciate the artistry of lettering which is more than just words on a comic book page.

Uโtlunโta had a finger that was long and sharp like a spearhead, and she would look like a kindly old lady to gain your trust and then when you least expected it, she'd use that spear finger to cut out your liver.

I was going to bring up Uโtlunโta, from Cherokee folklore, but in rereading the story I was reminded that she's not a ghost but a witch made of stone. Which is kind of the opposite of a ghost. Her story gave me the heebie jeebies as a kid, though.

In an effort to get my child to get back into bed, I asked her if she wanted to be tucked in by Monsieur Momengraff, who comes into your room on tiptoes and says "sshhh!" and "No no, iz no time for the speaking. Iz time for the beddy-byes" before tucking you in and throwing a cream pie in your face.
