My dad decided that I was just being whiny and lazy when I said my boot hoot my foot and then when I was finally able to take it off he realized that part of the boot had been actively damaging my foot and I'm not going to go into details bc it's not the worst thing in the world but it's gross.
Anyway I was just thinking about that.
I'm also happy there's a vaccine for chicken pox because what a miserable experience thst was.
My feet hurt because they were swollen enough to not fit in my shoes. And shit happens, this wasn't my parents being evil, but it makes me happy to see parents i know trying to understand why their kids are having big emotions.
They also might have avoided exposing a bunch of strangers to chicken pox. But Dr. Dobson told them a child's strong will couldn't be tolerated.
Now, tired whiny kids on a road trip sucks to deal with. But if my parents had used their brains they would have remembered that I didn't put up a fuss about my shoes and also was usually excited to eat in a restaurant and concluded that something was wrong instead of thinking I was being a brat.
By the time a few hours later thaf we got to grandma's, the first few chicken pox had raised--all on my feet. They rapidly spread all over my body and the visit became the difficult task of keeping me comfortable & not exposing my cousins.
So we got wherever we were going for dinner and I had a little temper fit because it *hurt* to put my shoes on, I wasn't hungry, and I just wanted to sleep. This was not received well and I went into the restaurant crying because no one would listen that my feet hurt.
I was a pretty obedient kid, and while I didn't want to wear shoes in the car on road trips, I knew you had to wear shoes to go inside places. This trip to grandma's I felt bad, and I'm sure I had been more grumpy and whiny than usual. And I was complaining that my feet hurt.
here's a story about how caring more about obedience in your children than their well being can cause a ton of unnecessary pain and secondary consequences. CW adults disregarding children's needs.
