Election security is a huge issue. ETA might get somewhere if it didn’t throw around words like “proves” so loosely.
Those states need to make sure their election statutes are extremely clear. All states should be doing tabletop exercises about meeting his BS head on.
There are different hacks. Some don’t even change the database: they just change the choices that the voter sees onscreen. Defcon Voting Village has videos & the movie Killchain are places to start.
Nope - if your ballot is marked by hand it can be quickly and accurately scanned and tabulated. If there are questions about the tabulation, we still have hand marked ballots to count by hand or run through a different machine. 37 states run elections this way.
Not opposed to the option of mail voting. And there’s no restrictions on who can choose to vote by ballot marking devices anywhere I that know of. In GA and SC there are only BMDs for in-person voting.
How many ballots get spoiled? How many people proofread their printout thoroughly? What’s the margin of victory? It’s worth reviewing the math because hacking can flip as many or as few votes as they want. Who notices if every 10th vote gets flipped?
And the scanner/tabulator in the polling place spits back overvotes, undervotes and ambiguous marks. This alerts voters so they can vote again. Mail ballots lack this advantage.
Very familiar. What you will never know from looking at a printout is how the voter was responding to things onscreen. When printouts are spoiled due to “user error” it’s only because voter effectively proofread which is very rare.
You’re right about his wanting fewer people voting. In my state the paper we feed into the scanner came out of a hackable computer: Internet connectivity not necessary! The vote is encoded in a QR code, so we can’t know what gets cast. Neither Dem nor Republican should accept this method.
