I know a lot of the history. Reagan killed the program and by the time I started working adjacent to mental health professionals and hearing what was happening there was no going back without taxing the rich and rebuilding the system.

There is a church across the street from the Fulton County Courthouse that always has a line of homeless people around it because the church offers aid to the homeless. JD Vance would be horrified at such charity.

Thank you. That’s an interesting, but also disturbing statistic. There was a study also that showed DV dramatically increased with unemployment or financial duress. It’s awful. I think I will study up on the psychology of an authoritarian mindset.
DV research focuses is on physical violence and felony charges. Financial duress increases feelings of helplessness and a likely need to increase control elsewhere. Coercive control is a subset of DV which is primarily perpetrated by men. Emma Katz has a substack with great info.

Mental institutions were a haven for horrific abuses against those with no power or rights forced to stay, and be destroyed.
No,I volunteered for one that provided a wonderful environment for the disabled. Granted I was not allowed in the area where the violent patient lived. But when they closed the higher functioning who were still unable to take care of themselves were left on their own and most ended on the streets.

Crazy doesn't even equal screaming. Most crazy people are quite grateful for small kindnesses. I went out in the rain once to give a crazy homeless person a dish of hot beans and rice. She came by the next day to give me back the dish and spoon, washed. I saw a vendor give her an orange.
